NH-Aikido Ohana

Aikido is The Way of Spiritual Harmony. Aikido is a modern Japanese martial "art" unique in its synthesis of classical forms with a well-defined spiritual base - offering a key to the art of living naturally and unselfishly in a increasingly complicated world. Our dojo the Nishi-Aikido Ohana, is a small club, training in a thoughtful, friendly, environment, dedicated to the study of Aikido. The founder of Aikido taught us that Aikido practice should be done with a joyful spirit and we have adopted this message as a central precept of our club.  Aikido at the Nishi-Aikido Ohana is practiced in a joyful, supportive, non-competitive environment.  We believe that by training to joyfully blend with aggression towards us on the mat, we will learn to meet the challenges of life with a positive, non-combative spirit.

About us:  Our parent dojo is The Aikido Ohana in Hawaii. The word "Ohana" is Hawaiian for family, and we also seek to preserve the same feeling of family that characterizes the Hawaii dojo. We do not seek to learn how to defeat others, instead we seek to learn how to master ourselves, the founder said "self victory is true victory". Training is not based on physical strength, age, or gender, but rather on the sincere desire to learn and to improve ourselves. We welcome your interest and encourage you to contact us with any questions that you might have. We practice Monday and Wednesday evenings, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm, at the Nishi Hongwanji in Downtown Los Angeles, 815 East First Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012. Our club is hosted by the Nishi-Hongwanji of Los Angeles and visitors are always welcome, but as the exterior door to our building is locked in the evenings, we recommend that you contact us before stopping by.
